Ideally situated in a rich natural environment, the Marine Research Laboratory concentrates on marine technology-related studies and tests that research the effects of marine organisms on paints. For antifouling agents in particular, various tests are conducted both on the materials and paint films for a comprehensive evaluation.
	A test board suspended from a raft is coated with various marine paints and left for some months in order to examine the resistance of each paint film to the attached microorganisms. A bioassay test is also conducted to examine the growth process of diatoms and ectocarpaceae attached to chemicals and materials.
