coating in Europe through a merger with Akzo Nobel

| Nippon Paint Co., Ltd. has promoted coil-coating
in Europe through its joint-venture with Courtaulds Coatings
(Holdings) Ltd. The subsequent acquisition of Courtaulds by
Akzo Nobel (Australia) Pty. Ltd., initiated Nippon Paint's July
1 establishment of a joint-venture with Akzo Nobel in the Netherlands.
The new joint-venture, Akzo Nobel Nippon Paint BV, will gradually
take over Akzo Nobel's coil coating business in Europe. |

| By integrating Akzo Nobel's production bases in
the United Kingdom, Sweden and Italy with those of Nippon Paint
located in Germany, France and Spain, the new Akzo Nobel Nippon
Paint will eventually have an operational network covering six
countries in Europe. This also places the company in the top
supplier tier of coil-coating products that target the entire
European market including Eastern Europe. The combination of
Nippon Paint's paint technology and the latest production technology
expertise accumulated as Asia's major supplier and Akzo Nobel's
expertise as a technological and market leader in Europe and
America will no doubt allow Nippon Paint to strengthen its coil-coating
business even further. |
