I am Kenji Sakai and I was recently appointed thirteenth president of Nippon Paint Co., Ltd.
As we all know, the global economy as well as the Japanese economy has been facing a "once-in-a-century" crisis since last autumn. This has adversely impacted the business of most companies, and Nippon Paint is no exception. However, I am confident that our Group will overcome the daunting challenges we now face, and will get on a new track for success. This confidence comes from our company's experience over its 128-year history. Even when faced with extremely tough situations — even worse than today — we have always emerged from difficult situations and have sustained our business to date. In other words, our ability to recover from crisis is imprinted in our corporate DNA, so to speak.
By drawing on this DNA, we should dedicate all of our efforts toward coping with the current crisis, and pass the baton that has survived for 128 years to the next generation. I'm confident that we will remain in business for 150 years, 200 years or even beyond. As president, I believe it is my responsibility to lead the Nippon Paint Group to continued success.
